Campus carry laws went into effect at Tyler Junior College and community colleges across the state on Tuesday.
The new law, which permits concealed handgun license holders to carry their weapon into the classroom, has been in place at four-year colleges in Texas for one year.
According to Dr. Tom Johnson, Vice-President of Student Affairs at Tyler Junior College, the new law won’t have an impact on the learning environment.
“We see this to really be a non-event,” said Dr. Johnson.
However, he said that school administrators have notified students of the change and have posted signs designating areas, like testing centers and labs, where guns will still be banned.
