With just 9 days left in the special session, lawmakers in Austin are focusing on bills that could place spending limits on city governments across the state.
Tyler City Manager Edward Broussard said that he disagrees with the local control legislation because every city is different.
“From the Gulf coast to West Texas, the needs of those constituents are entirely different,” said Broussard.
Other city leaders like Tyler Chamber of Commerce CEO Tom Mullins said that the bills are just the latest in a string of local control measures.
“They are imposing a statewide mandate on a variety of issues,” Mullins said.
