DPS: 2 adults killed, 7-year-old seriously injured in Toll 49 crash

TYLER, Texas — Two people are dead and one was injured following a Wednesday morning crash on Toll 49 in Smith County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the two-vehicle wreck occurred just north of Tyler.

The preliminary investigation revealed an SUV, driven by Jesse S. Canal, 30, of Tyler, was traveling north on Toll 49 in the left lane. A pickup driven by Taylor A. Reyes, 31, also of Tyler, was traveling south on the toll road.

DPS says Canal drove on wrong side of road in a no passing zone an struck Reyes' vehicle which was coming the opposite way. 

Canal and Reyes were both pronounced dead at the scene. A 7-year-old passenger of Reyes' was taken to a local hospital and is in serious condition.
