Jerry Woolverton, a popular businessman in Tyler, died on Friday at 57-years-old after fighting cancer for over nine years.
Woolverton was the well-known President of Texas Bank and Trust in Tyler and former professor at the University of Texas at Tyler.
The popular East Texan was also instrumental in raising funds for the American Cancer Society long before his own diagnosis. He was a regular attendee of the annual Tyler Cattle Barons Gala for about 15 years.
Friends of Woolverton have been mourning his loss on Facebook, one post referred to him as a "warm and friendly" person.
Funeral arrangements for Woolverton have been made in Tyler.
