Today is National Purple Heart Day. A time to honor those veterans who have received the award.
General George Washington created the Purple Heart during the Revolutionary War. The award is the oldest military decoration for military merit.
Here in East Texas, we have several Purple Heart recipients. Vietnam Veteran Larry Lusk is one of them.
He says the award symbolizes a sacrifice made by a soldier to our country.
Lusk also received a cluster for being injured twice. He says he was one of the lucky few who survived their injuries and made it back home.
