VAN ZANDT — A former National Football League linebacker was killed and one person was injured Thursday in a three-vehicle crash in Van Zandt County, according to information in an article written by the NFL and from a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

A preliminary crash investigation revealed Isiah "Butch" Robertson Jr., 69, of Garland was driving a 2001 Lincoln Limousine and traveling north on Highway 198 at an unsafe speed around a curve, according to DPS.

The NFL said the crash occurred a short time after Robertson was speaking at a high school football banquet in a nearby town. The crash was also just miles away from a drug and alcohol treatment center Robertson founded in Mabank, according to the NFL.

Robertson Jr. was transported to UT Health-Athens were he later died, according to DPS.
