TYLER, Texas — The Golden Road Water Treatment Plant will remain offline for at least four more weeks as crews continue maintenance, the City of Tyler announced Friday. However, the city's water continues to be impacted by a compound affects the water's taste and odor.

The Lake Palestine Water Treatment facility remains the only active facility providing water to the city. Earlier in the month, the city noticed a spike in the compound Geosmin. It is not toxic, but does have an odor and taste.

In an effort to neutralize the impact of Geosmin, the city began to put the maximum amount of Ozone and powdered activated carbon.

On Friday, the city reported the amount of Geosmin is falling.

The city says they will continue to monitor the taste and odor of the water, especially when the Golden Road Plant goes back online.

If residents notice a strong "earthy" taste and odor in their water, they are encouraged to call Tyler's Water Service Center at (903) 531-1285.
