Hundreds attend 3rd annual Homeless Resource Day in Longview

The City of Longview hosted the 3rd annual Homeless Resource Day.

LONGVIEW, Texas — For the third year, the City of Longview hosted the Homeless Resource Day to help the homeless find resources to succeed and get off the streets. However, reaching out to those in need has always been a challenge.

"We're trying to reach those that don't really know us," said Tommy Duke with Hiway 80 Rescue Mission. "So we'll have a chance to minister to them and tell them what we can do to help them."

To help them get to the event, the city provided transportation.

"Longview transit has been running a shuttle between all of our missions, where a lot of our homeless are concentrated, and they're bringing them here for this event," said Laura Hill, the Director of Community Services for Longview.

There were just under 70 vendors at today's event, all providing different information and services.

"I needed to get a flu vaccine shot, I needed to get insurance, I needed housing, I just lost a job," Michael Lyons said. "Everything that I needed was here today."
