TYLER — A local organization is giving East Texans a chance to showcase our inner ‘Picasso’, while painting for a cause.
'Hunger for love' is a ministry that feeds the homeless and under resourced community in Tyler that invites locals out every Saturday to serve others.
According to the organization’s Facebook page, they meet Saturday mornings at 300 E. Valentine street to sing songs, listen to parables and share a meal.
One of its newest initiatives involves painting 24 columns underneath the bridge to beautify the space where the group meets every weekend.
"I lost my mother about 5 months ago and I had a lot of commitments,” said Linda Rowe, who for the past five weeks has volunteered with ‘Hunger for Love’. “This just kept tugging at my heart.”
Rowe is one of several locals volunteering to paint columns.
“The more we do to move people off the street and into society again, that makes me happy,” added Maggie Roth, another ‘Hunger for Love’ volunteer.
Initially, the group sought the community’s help in sponsoring the columns and painting other areas under the bridge, but they are happy to report all columns are sold out!
Local artist Dacia Lucia Kidd will also be on hand in the coming weeks and will paint a huge mural under the bridge celebrating Tyler as the ‘Rose City.’
However, the organization could still use some help.
