IT'S OFFICIAL: Colleyville Heritage's Joe Willis named Robert E. Lee head football coach

Willis, a graduate of East Texas Baptist University, has 27 years of coaching experience with 10 years as a head coach.

TYLER, Texas — Robert E. Lee High School named their new head football coach and he's coming from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Colleyville Heritage's Joe Willis will take on the role following the departure of Kurt Traylor. Traylor left Robert E. Lee in December to take a position under his brother, Jeff Traylor, at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

The announcement was made during Tyler ISD's board meeting on Thursday.

Willis, a graduate of East Texas Baptist University, has 27 years of coaching experience with 10 years as a head coach. He has a head coaching record of 90-38 with a State Championship in 2012. He has been at Colleyville Heritage for five years.

In 2018, he was named one of three finalists to take over the reigns at Southlake Carroll, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
