Local business owner offers summer jobs to Tyler-area teens

Local business owner, Damien Arnold offers summer jobs for Tyler-area teens.

TYLER, Texas - Sometimes searching for a summer job can be a daunting task. It's something, Damien Arnold knows all too well and one of the reasons why he created the 'Teenage Structure Program'.

"I'm just giving teenagers an opportunity in the summertime to take six or seven hours out the day to just work," said owner of NSN Landscaping and Lawn Service, Damien Arnold.

Once homeless himself, Arnold started the summer program three years with only six participants and a few friends.

Since then, the program has more than doubled in size.

"I wouldn't imagine having over 90 teenagers [this year]," he added.

The program has become quite the attraction for teens looking to make some quick cash this summer.

Kids between the ages of 12 and 17 signed up for the program and will meet Monday thru Friday to participate in everything from mowing to gardening.

Freshman Robert E. Lee High School student, John Turman is taking advantage of the summer opportunity.

"When I make my own money, I feel better as a man," Turman said.

As for owner Damien Arnold, he says the reward is much bigger than the daily $40 paycheck the kids will take home.

"I've learned so much, I had a lot of downfalls in this business," Arnold said. "But, to see today that it's still going is the most remarkable thing."

While the landscaping business has reached its limit for program candidates this year, you can always follow their Facebook page for the latest updates and opportunities.
