Lufkin police identify 2-year-old boy killed in alleged accidental shooting

Police say the child was at a family member’s home in the Inwood Terrace subdivision when the accidental shooting occurred on Thursday, around 8:45 p.m.

LUFKIN, Texas — The Lufkin Police Department has identified a 2-year-old boy who was killed as a result of an alleged accidental shooting Thursday night.

According to the LPD, the toddler has been identified as Axton Richardson.

Police say the child was at a family member’s home in the Inwood Terrace subdivision when the accidental shooting occurred around 8:45 p.m.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

LPD chaplains provided support for the family at the hospital, as well as officers, paramedics and dispatchers. 

"No parent should ever have to bury a child," the LPD said in a statement. "Please keep this family in your prayers."

A GoFundMe has been established to assist with expenses for the child's family.

The incident remains under investigation.  to help with Axton’s final expenses.
