Motorcycle club to hold rally benefitting ETX Food Bank

Troup. TX — It's the 13th Annual Spring Thing Food Rally for East Texas Food Bank. It's an event hosted by the 42 Taillights Motorcycle Club in Smith County.

This is their biggest fundraiser of the year with lots of family fun activities.

It's located here: 22053 County Road 2147, Troup, TX 75789-5909, United States

People can camp all weekend on the eight acre property for $15. That will include a kids area, carnival games, horseshoes, fireworks, not to mention live entertainment. There will also be food vendors and a silent auction.

"We're trying to raise as much food and money as we can for the food bank," Jesse "Hippie" Vann, the president of the motorcycle club said.

It starts on Friday, May 25 and goes until Monday, May 28. The event hasn't even started yet and the 42 Taillights have already collected over 1,000 pounds of food!

"Our main motto is 'Make the world a better place' It doesn't matter how we do it. We're all for our veterans and our children," Hippie said.

They typically raise $5,000-$10,000 but it's dependent on the weather.

At the food bank $1=8 meals. If the motorcycle club raises within the above range then they could be providing 40,000-80,000 meals just by the money donated.

The money isn't only going to the meals though, it's also for a new volunteer center, a nutrition education center, renovations for the warehouse, and expanding the cold docking area of the food bank.

It's something that means a lot to Vann.

"My family, we weren't exactly the best off, actually most of our families. We've been helped by the food bank, not just that one in particular... and so helping give back to the community is what we're all about. Making the world a better place," he said.

If you can't make it to the event in Troup, 42 Taillights will be at the downtown Tyler square on Saturday from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. collecting food items. From there they will ride behind the food trucks they hope to fill to the food bank before heading back to the campgrounds.

They will also host a Memorial Day Ride Parade on Monday at 10 a.m. It will start at the downtown Tyler square to Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery where there will be services to honor the fallen heroes.
