Tarus Roshawn Arnold, a 33-year-old Nacogdoches native, is charged with capital murder in the June death of 1-year-old Unity Mitchell from Lufkin.

On June 14, Unity was taken to Woodland Heights Medical Center via ambulance and she was not breathing.

She passed away the following day at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston due to a massive head injury.

Arnold, the boyfriend of Unity's mother, was babysitting Unity during the time she stopped breathing. The infant's mother was away at work.

Law enforcement officials arrested Arnold the same day on probation violation warrants from Bexar and Angelina County and warrant for drug paraphernalia after an inquest regarding Unity's injury.

Initially, upon his arrest, Arnold tried to lie to officers about his identity.

He was then extradited to Bexar County on the probation warrant and stayed in custody there until Friday. After that, Arnold was returned to Angelina County and the capital murder warrant was served.

At this time, Arnold remains in the Angelina County jail. HIs bond is yet to be set.
