SMITH COUNTY — A man died and a woman was injured after a shooting happened at 10:21 p.m. Monday on the 10,000 block of County Road 283 off Hwy 271.

According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, the shooting was a result of a domestic dispute, and no one else was involved besides the deceased man and a woman who was seriously injured.

The man identified as Rodney Kilman, age 50 was married to the woman who was identified as 47 year old Tena Kilman. Mrs. Kilman called 9-1-1 saying she had been shot and needed EMS. Upon arrival deputies found Mr. Kilman deceased just inside the front door and then Mrs. Kilman laying on the floor with serious injuries.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Kilman suffered gunshot wounds that authorities say appear to be consistent with evidence located at the scene.

The Mrs. Kilman underwent surgery overnight, and is in stable condition at this time.

Authorities said no arrests were made, but evidence suggests that this may be related to both the husband and wife having an argument at the residence.

Investigators contacted the Smith County District Attorney’s Office and recommended this investigation be presented to a Grand Jury.
