Police identify man found shot to death in Tyler

Officers from the Tyler Police Department are on the scene of a homicide that happened Monday afternoon inside a home on North Gaston and West Barrett.

SMITH COUNTY — UPDATE: Police have identified a man found dead Monday afternoon on his front porch from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim is identified as 65 year old, Bennie Ray Jackson of Tyler. Police confirms that Jackson lived at the home located at 1421 W. Barrett Street.

Investigators and Crime Scene personnel responded to the scene and are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Anyone with information about potential suspect(s) involved in this crime are urged to contact the Tyler Police Department at 903-531-1000, or Crimestoppers at 903-597-CUFF (903-597-2833). Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charges filed against the suspects in this case or any felony case.

According to TPD, an older black man was found shot in the doorway of a home. Police received the call just before 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
