TEXARKANA, Texas — The Texarkana Police Department arrested a man for allegedly beating his girlfriend unconscious during an argument Friday morning.
According to the Texarkana Police Department, 19-year-old Dontavious Haney was arguing with his 21-year-old girlfriend in the 1600 block of Peach Street. During the argument, she slapped the phone from his hands. Then, police say he punched her with his fist, knocking her unconscious.
Police say Haney saw she was not breathing an called 911.
Officers and EMS arrived on the scene at about 9:30 p.m. Haney was trying to give her CPR when officers arrived. Officers then tried to resuscitate her until paramedics arrived.
She remains in critical condition at the hospital with life-threatening brain damage.
Haney was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He is being held on $100,000 bond.
