SMITH COUNTY — Roland Lindsey, the founder of the popular East Texas BBQ restaurant chain Bodacious, has died, according to his daughter.

He passed away on Thursday at the age of 78.

Lindsey's love of barbeque began at his parents’ restaurant, Lindsey Café, alongside friendships made with some of the all-time legends of barbeque in Dallas and East Texas.

After his family closed their eatery, Lindsey continued cooking barbeque. During this time customers would comment on his BBQ as being "bodaciously good" and Little Roland’s Pit Bar-B-Q became Bodacious Bar-B-Q in 1968, according to the restaurant's website.

Bodacious has regularly been deemed one of the top BBQ joints in the state of Texas.

Services for Lindsey are pending and will be carried out by Rader Funderal Home in Longview.

Bodacious locations will close at 3:00 p.m., the day prior to the service and will remain closed the day of the service so employees may attend.
