A Rusk County woman is under investigation for animal cruelty.

On June 27th, Rusk County Sheriff Deputies and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals seized 34 dogs, 11 cats and one turtle from Kathrine Erksine's home in Henderson.

SPCA officals tell us the animals were in very poor condition.

This Thursday, a hearing is planned on whether the animals will return to Erksine or remain in SCPA custody.

Erksine's neighbors say they want SPCA to keep the animals.

“Surely they wouldn’t give them back to her, that would be awful for not just us but the animals.” Neighbor Laquita Jones said.

SPCA officials tell us the dogs have been treated and are in good condition. They want the judge to give them custody so they can find better homes.

Rusk County Sheriff Deputies are still investigating this case and have not decided to whether to charge Erskine with animal cruelty.
