Sewer blockage causes 100,000-gallon wastewater spill in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Texas — TCEQ reported more than 100,000 gallons of water water spilled in Jacksonville.

According to TCEQ, the spill began Sunday in the area of Canada Street. The cause of the spill was a blockage of the sewer main.

The blockage has repaired and the area was disinfected. TCEQ is not recommending increased monitoring of water supply systems.

However, customers who get their water supply from wells withing a half-mile of the spill site should boil their water or use distilled water. If anyone has questions, they should call the city to see if the water is safe.

Residents are also urged to avoid soil that may have been affected by the spill.
