Suspect behind bars for double homicide

However, after allegedly murdering both victims, Martin immediately drove himself to the Tyler Police Station where he was detained. He is currently in Smith County jail and has been charged with capital murder with a $1 million bond.

At about 2 A.M. Thursday morning, the Tyler Police Department responded to a shooting on the 2300 block of Ridgewood Drive.

Once investigators arrived, they found 25-year-old Krista Newman of Frankston and 26-year-old Caleb McGrady of Tyler, dead from separate gunshot wounds.

CBS19 spoke to someone who lives at the home but didn't want to speak on camera. That person said prior to the incident, they were having a party. Martin was invited and was said to have been friends with McGrady, the male victim.

There is no word on prior events that led to the incident. However, after allegedly murdering both victims, Martin immediately drove himself to the Tyler Police Station where he was detained. He is currently in Smith County jail and has been charged with capital murder with a $1 million bond.

His criminal record shows his last run in with Smith County Authorities was back in 1994 and 2004 for check fraud.

Neighbors who have lived in the area said this comes as a surprise. The house had been vacant the past couple of years before McGrady moved in this past July. Hilary Costa a neighbor spoke about the incident.

She says, "I was just surprised that that was going on like literally like just three doors down. I had seen an officer and tried to speak to him and he just told me that the suspect had already left and that I should just remain inside of my house."

I spoke with one neighbor down the road who said his son's friend heard two gunshots. Other neighbors near the scene were alerted by the lights of police cars.
