When it comes to explaining death to children, Dr. William Renfroe recommends waiting for the right time.
"You may make a choice not to tell a child at all if they are too young," Dr. Renfroe said.
But if a parent finds themselves in a situation where the conversation is unavoidable, he said to be honest and available for questions the child may have.
"They are probably going to come back with questions," he said.
He also advised that it may take time for a child to process the information so being ready to answer questions anytime is key.
