The Texas State Railroad opened in 1881 to help bring coal to prisons between Palestine and Rusk. Today the railroad serves as a historic train with passenger rides.

In Winter 2018, officials tell us they will be opening a brand new museum to showcase antique trains and the history of the railroad.

"We want people to see how this railroad helped to shape Texas," Railroad official Teresa Propeck says. "The museum will feature many antique trains which all have their own story to tell."
