The Texas State Railroad is open and taking passengers back in time to its early days. Since 1896, the railroad has been a popular form of transportation for Texans.

Originally created to take prisoners to the penitentiary, passenger trains soon began using the railroad. Due to financial problems the railroad closed and the Rusk/Palestine Depots became parks.

During the last Sunday of every month, attendees are treated to a special afternoon ride. The train takes passengers from the Rusk, TX Depo to Palestine, TX Depots.
