TYLER — Tyler ISD Board Vice President, Wade Washmon submitted a request for an agenda item to consider changing the name of Robert E. Lee HS to Lee HS on Monday.

According to the district's board president, the board talked about a broader agenda item that would allow for the consideration other alternatives, but Washmon believed that this specific action would be the better compromise.

The statement said that Washmon also felt like this agenda item would be more likely to gain the support of other members of the board and would help the overall controversy surrounding this issue among the community.

The board president accepted Washmon's request and added another item to the agenda, a discussion of conversion costs involved with such a name change, should the board decide to go through with it.
