A 66-year-old male resident has been identified as the suspect of a deadly shooting Thursday morning at an assisted living facility in Westerly, Rhode Island.

During a Thursday afternoon press conference, Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey confirmed two employees and a 67-year-old female resident were shot.

One of the workers, a 47-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other worker is in critical condition and the resident who was shot was out of surgery, as of early Thursday afternoon.

Westerly Police said the first 911 call came in around 10:30 a.m. Eastern about a shooting at Babcock Village, a federally subsidized assisted living complex.

Chief Lacey said reviewed surveillance footage and identified the suspect as a resident of the facility. When tactical teams went to the suspect's room the found the suspect was dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities said they recovered one firearm and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Westerly is a beach community located in southwestern Rhode Island near the border with Connecticut.

All public schools in the city were locked down for about an hour, according to the district's Facebook page
