TYLER, Texas — The annual Fresh 15 is next weekend in Tyler. The race is expected to bring hundreds of runners competing against each other and their own personal times.
Four different runners and coaches spoke with CBS19 offering advice on what to do the week leading up to a big run.
They all agreed that cutting back on training and resting up are the best things you can do.
"Hydration and nutrition doesn't start a day or two out, people start focusing on it at the very end," track, field and cross country Coach Chris Stonestreet said. "It starts now, or even earlier."
For runners, that starts with a certain nutrient group: Carbs.
"I like to carb load so the night before a race, good pasta," Lane Garland, an avid runner said.
"They'll usually get a bagel with peanut butter," Chase Rathke, another track and cross country coach said.
The Fresh 15 is Saturday, March 2. Registration is currently open.
Runs include a 15K, 5K, and a 1K for the children.
