Smith County Commissioner Cary Nix announced his plans to run for re-election in Precinct 2 Monday, July 17.
In a written statement, Nix said, “I've enjoyed my service to the citizens of this county and precinct 2. I look forward to working with the new leadership we have on the commissioner's court as we continue to address the needs of this growing county.”
According to the Smith County website, Commissioner Nix is a conservative republican born and raised in Whitehouse.
He graduated fromTyler Junior College and attended Stephen F. Austin University before returning to Whitehouse to take over the family business as a rose grower.
