TOMBALL, Texas (KHOU) -- Deputies spent a majority of Monday evening trying to figure out why one teenager stabbed another to death.

While investigators won't release the victim's name, his family tells KCEN-HD News' sister station KHOU 11 they lost 17-year-old Tyler Wade over something silly.

"Tyler was in the shower, kid showed up and stabbed him," said Roy Rivas, whose son went to high school with Tyler.

Deputies finally confirmed the story that had been circulating for hours around the subdivision late Monday: Someone went into a home on Oden Trace Drive and stabbed Tyler Wade to death.

"The 12-year-old went over to the neighbor and said, 'Someone is stabbing my brother,'" said Sergeant Cedrick Collier of the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "(The neighbor) retrieved a weapon and went next door."

Investigators tell KHOU 11 News that neighbor came over, saw what happened and shot the suspect once after that teenager lunged at him.

"It's a pretty quiet neighborhood," Sgt Collier said. "We're thinking that the front door might have been unlocked."

But deputies are fairly confident that this was no random attack. They believe Tyler and his attacker knew one another.

Family members tell KHOU 11 News Tyler Wade attended Tomball Memorial High School and that he had three other siblings.

"Crime is not something," Rivas continued. "This is country, this is the community we moved out from the inner city to get out from. This is small town."

Neighbors looked on as investigators combed Oden Trace Drive for evidence trying to determine why one teenager would stab another.

Family members tell KHOU 11 News the neighbor who jumped into help is an off-duty Houston firefighter. His friends say Tyler was a great guy who would put a smile on anyone's face.

A memorial is set for Tyler Wade just after 7 a.m. Tuesday morning at the high school.
