UPDATE: According to the Lufkin Police Department, a man was heading east in his van when he became ill and left the road, hitting a traffic sign and an electric pole at around 12:20 p.m. near 1710 Deman Ave.

The accident caused a power outage in the area, and Oncor was told about it.

Police say that the driver told an officer that he has cancer, and that is what caused him to become ill.

After the crash, the driver was conscious, alert and later transported to a Lufkin hospital with possible injuries.

Authorities have not issued any citations.


Jessica Pebsworth with the Lufkin Police Department says a major wreck in front of 1710 East Denman Avenue near the intersection of Slack Street has caused a power outage in the area.

Traffic is moving, but Pebsworth stated to expect delays.

There is no other information about the wreck at this time.

Oncor has been notified.
