However, before the team was honored on the House floor, the Academy Award winner met with his hometown squad for a private speech.

In February, State Rep. Jay Dean filed a house resolution honoring the Lobos for winning their first state title in 81 years.

"What a day," Rep. Dean exclaimed when honoring the team. "So proud of these kids. They did a great job representing our community and left a real impression on our Capitol this morning. This event was all about the players and coaches, but I want to thank the Governor and Mr. McConaughey for accepting my invitation to join us in recognition of our city. Go Lobos!"

Prior to their historic win, McConaughey sent the Lobos a video from London wishing his alma mater luck and provided a little advice ahead of the contest.
