Al Flanagan, a financial advisor at Northwestern Mutual — Tyler, has been selected as a recipient of the company's 2018 Community Service Award, and received a $15,000 grant for the Whitehouse ISD Education Foundation.

Tyler — A Whitehouse ISD volunteer has earned a huge donation for the district’s Education Foundation as recognition of his hard work.

Al Flanagan, a financial advisor at Northwestern Mutual — Tyler, has been selected as a recipient of the company’s 2018 Community Service Award, and received a $15,000 grant for the Whitehouse ISD Education Foundation.

Flanagan was a founding member of the board and currently serves as board president. His volunteer efforts have been focused on increasing fundraising and awareness. The funds he helped to raise during the 2016-2017 school year impacted more than 3,000 students. The grants went toward activities such as securing a 3D printer for visually-impaired students, bringing an internationally-known Auschwitz survivor to speak to junior high students in conjunction with their study of Anne Frank and the addition of a thermodynamics lab for physics students.

“I firmly believe the impact we have in Whitehouse ISD classrooms will have a resounding effect for years to come,” Flanagan said. “This grant will help us continue to transform these students’ lives through valuable educational opportunities.”

Whitehouse ISD Education Foundation seeks to support educational excellence, promote innovation in teaching, enhance educational programs, as well as partner with the community to enrich the quality of education for all students. The grant will be used to fund grant requests from teachers for their innovative teaching methods and to strengthen educational programs.
