TYLER - The John Tyler football team has had a lot of success on the field in recent years. And that success has translated into a lot of their guys getting a chance to play at the next level.
On Wednesday, 3 more Lions players signed with colleges. Ke'Andre Street signed with Houston, Chance Billington signed with Louisiana-Monroe, and Ja'Bralen Yarber signed with Northwestern State.
Obviously, you have to have a certain level of talent to get major college offers, and all 3 of these players are very talented. But they also said a big reason for their success was the culture of the John Tyler football program, and specifically, what head coach Ricklan Holmes does for the players and the team.
Yarber says, "He makes sure we're held accountable, don't let the little things go by and he really, he helped me grow as a person and helped me get to where I am right now."
Street adds, "I can't thank him enough, he's just an amazing coach, to be coached by him, man, I'm truly blessed."
Street continues a recent trend of players going from John Tyler to Houston. He's the 3rd player in the last 4 years, and the 5th in the last 7 years, to sign with the Cougars. And he's proud to now be part of that club.
Street says, "I talk to Greg (Ward Jr.), Braylon (Jones), and Bryson (Smith) mainly, you know, they stuck in my ear, they say its a great school,..for it to be Houston and like that pipeline, man, that's a great feeling to have."
