TYLER, Texas — We're into the final few weeks of the high school basketball season and playoff races are heating up all around East Texas.
In 16-5A, the John Tyler and Pine Tree boys are in a tight battle for the 3rd and 4th spots in the district. The Pirates won the first meeting between the teams last month. On Tuesday night, they met again and this one was close. Pine Tree hit a shot with 10 seconds to play and that was the difference as they won 72-70.
The JT and Pine Tree girls teams also played on Tuesday. It was close at the half, but the Lady Lions pulled away with a huge 2nd half and they picked up the 72-39 win.
Down in 4A, Spring Hill and Bullard met and each game featured a state-ranked team.
In the boys game, 14th ranked Spring Hill took care of business as they picked up the 95-51 win.
And on the girls side, 10th ranked Bullard was dominant as they won 55-34.
