Malakoff falls in first ever state title game

Malakoff put up a great fight, but fell a little short in their first appearance in the state title game.

ARLINGTON - The Malakoff football team made history in 2018. For the first time, the Tigers made it to the state championship game and on Thursday night, they faced off with Grandview in the 3A Division 2 state championship game.

The two teams traded shots in the first half. Malakoff got on the board first with an interception return for a touchdown, but then the two teams went back and forth. When they hit the half, the Zebras held a 21-14 lead.

The 3rd quarter was mostly a defensive struggle. But late in the quarter, the Tigers connected on a 44 yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 21.

It wouldn't stay that way for long though as Grandview came right back down the field and scored on a 3 yard touchdown run early in the 4th quarter. And that would turn out to be the game-winning touchdown. The Zebras would ice the game with a touchdown in the final minute and they win their first ever state title, beating Malakoff 35-21.
