TYLER - East Texas very own NHRA drag racing phenom Steve Torrence was in town. Torrence, along with his Capco Top Fuel dragster are looking to win big this weekend. Torrence, has been clawing his way back to the top ever since last year when he crashed in the second round of the AAA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis.
Now he gets another shot. Not only has the Kilgore star won consecutive victories in his first two races of the NHRA's Countdown to the Championship. Torrence is currently the point leader on the board, and is ready to put the past behind him.
"To be back in this position leading the points coming here back at home racing in front of the fans and the family and friends and everyone and racing for a championship to do that once is awesome but to do that two years in a row is surreal. You know it's been a really remarkable season to not only have the success we had last year and then catastrophe I would say that we had in Dallas. We'd like to have a different outcome that we had last year. The car is doing really well all the guys are doing well and I'm glad to be back at home," says Torrence.
