What an offensive shootout this was.
It didn't seem like it would be in the first half, but LSU quarterback Joe Burrow had a solid first half, leading his team to put up 20 points on the board.
In the second half, however, turned into offensive fireworks when Sam Ehlinger turned it on. Ehlinger scored four touchdowns in the second half alone -- three passing and one rushing. Ehlinger's last touchdown came with 22 seconds left to bring the Longhorns within a touchdown of tying the game.
An onside kick recovery scare for the Tigers almost gave Texas a chance to pull off the second half comeback. Instead, the ball was recovered out of bounds and LSU maintained possession to kneel out the game.

In what seemed to be an onsides kick scare recovered by Texas, Collin Johnson was unable to recover it inbounds and LSU got the ball. LSU took a knee to wind down the clock. LSU wins 45-38.
TEXAS (Own 25):
Sam Ehlinger was sacked on first down for a loss of two yards. Ehlinger tucked the ball and ran for a gain of 13 yards. Ehlinger hit Roschon Johnson for a short gain. Ehlinger then connected with Brennan Eagles on a deep pass to the LSU 30-yard line. Ehlinger picked up five on a scramble out of bounds. Ehlinger hit Devin Duvernay on a shallow cross for a gain of four. Texas committed a holding penalty on the following play, backing them up to third and 11. Ehlinger took a shot in the end zone for Collin Johnson, which resulted in a pass interference penalty. Ehlinger continued his second half fireworks with his fourth passing touchdown of the day. Texas trails 38-45 with 22 seconds left in regulation.
LSU (Own 25):
Burrow completed his pass over the middle to Marshall Jr. for a first down. It seemed as if Marshall Jr. fumbled and Texas recovered the ball, but the play was called a catch and down by contact. Texas head coach Tom Herman challenged the call of a fumble. After review, the catch and down by contact rule was confirmed. Burrow completed a pass to Justin Jefferson for a gain of seven yards. Edwards-Helaire picked up the first down with a short run up the middle. Burrow looked downfield for Jefferson in one-on-one coverage, but overthrew him. On second and 10, Texas' Brandon Jones blitzed off the edge and sacked Burrow for a loss of seven.
Texas took its second timeout of the second half with 2:34 remaining in regulation. On third and 17, Burrow escaped the pressure and threw a pass over the middle off one foot, completed the pass to Jefferson, and Jefferson took it 66 yards to the house. LSU leads 45-31 after a two point conversion.
TEXAS (Own 25):
Sam Ehlinger rolled out to his right, but had to tuck the ball and picked up one yard. On the next play, Ehlinger was sacked for a loss of one yard. On third and 10, Ehlinger tried a deep shot to Collin Johnson, which fell incomplete. Offsetting penalties wiped the play and third down was redone. On third and 10 -- again -- Ehlinger actually completed his pass to Johnson this time for a first down. Sam Ehlinger found a gash in the middle of LSU's defense, but a holding penalty wiped out the play. On first and 20, Ehlinger completed a short drag route to Brennan Eagles, which was stopped for a loss of four yards. On second and 24, Ehlinger cut the down and distance in half with a 12-yard run. To keep the drive moving, Ehlinger converted the first down with a completion over the middle to Devin Duvernay. The Duvernay catch was reviewed and ruled complete. Ehlinger threw a pass to Eagles, which fell incomplete. However, a pass interference call moved the ball up to the LSU 30-yard line. Ehlinger was sacked on the following play for a 12-yard loss. On second down and 22, Ehlinger attempted a deep pass for Eagles, which fell incomplete. On third and 22, Ehlinger took a quarterback draw up the middle for a gain of 13 yards. Cameron Dicker hit the 47-yard field goal to narrow the Longhorn deficit to 37-31 with 3:59 left in regulation.

Burrow hit Lanard Fournette in the flat and he was stopped for a gain of one yard. Burrow completed a pass to Ja'Marr Chase for a first down. Burrow pass was tipped but caught by Fournette for a gain of two yards. Burrow completed his fourth pass in a row on this drive to convert another first down. On the next play, Texas was called for roughing the passer, which moved the Tigers offense to the Texas 24-yard line. Burrow continued to slice up the Texas defense with another pass to Marshall Jr. Edwards-Helaire capped off the drive with a touchdown run to give LSU a 37-28 lead with 9:58 left in the fourth quarter.
TEXAS (Own 25):
Sam Ehlinger connected with Devin Duvernay on an 11-yard slant route over the middle. A false start backed up the Longhorns five yards. Ehlinger and Duvernay connected again for a 16-yard first down. Keaontay Ingram picked up no yards on the first down carry. A swing pass from Ehlinger to Roschon Johnson pushed the Longhorns passed midfield. Ehlinger took a shot down the left sideline for John Burt, which was caught, but he landed out of bounds. On fourth and three, Ehlinger hit Duvernay over the middle on a slant for a 44-yard touchdown. Texas trails 30-28 with 12:09 left in regulation.

Burrow opened the fourth quarter with a 26-yard touchdown pass to to Terrace Marshall Jr. LSU leads 30-21.

Burrow completed a swing pass to Edwards-Helaire for a gain of two yards. Burrow ran up the middle for three yards. On third and five, Burrow converted the first down with a pass down the right sideline. Burrow continued to drive the field with another first down conversion over the middle. Sam Ehlinger continued his second half rhythm with a completed pass over the middle to Collin Johnson. After a short gain on a run up the middle, Ehlinger picked up the first down across midfield with a scramble to the right sideline. Ehlinger hit Duvernay on a screen on the next play for a 15-yard gain to the LSU 20-yard line. A screen to Duvernay in the other direction was stopped for no gain. Ehlinger looked for Duvernay again in the end zone, but over threw the receiver. On third and 10, Ehlinger found Jake Smith for the first touchdown of the freshman receiver's career. Texas trails 23-21.

Joe Burrow will not back down. After Ehlinger orchestrated a 19-play drive to bring the score to 20-14, Burrow hit another deep shot to Ja'Marr Chase for a long gain into Texas territory.
After a few plays for short gains, Burrow threw a swing pass to Edwards-Helaire, who was absolutely crushed by the Texas defense as soon as he caught the ball... and then dropped it. Cade York set up for the 40-yard field goal, but Texas took its first timeout before the snap. York came back out and made the 40-yarder to give LSU a 23-14 lead with 5:10 left in the third quarter.
TEXAS (Own 14):
Keaontay Ingram fumbled on his first carry of the second half, but recovered it. Roschon Johnson moved the chains with a tough run up the middle. Texas continued to look Johnson's way with another handoff and swing pass to move the chains again. Ehlinger took a shot in one-on-one coverge downfield for Collin Johnson, but the pass fell incomplete. Ehlinger hit Devin Duvernay over the middle to move the chains. Ehlinger rolled to his left, then reversed field to find Reese Leitao for a short gain across midfield. Ehlinger looked Collin Johnson's way down the left sideline and it was incomplete. Devin Duvernay made a man miss in the backfield on a screen pass to pick up four yards. Ehlinger hit Ingram on a checkdown for a first down. Ehlinger's deep pass to Duvernay fell incomplete. Ingram gained one yard to the LSU 29-yard line. On third and nine, Ehlinger converted with a 12-yard pass to Collin Johnson. Ehlinger's screen pass to Duvernay to the left sideline gained five yards after Duvernay trucked a couple of LSU defenders.
Ehlinger called his own number to set up third and short inside the 10-yard line. Ingram picked up the first down on a run up the middle. On first and goal, Ingram pushed the Longhorns offense to the two-yard line. Ehlinger punched it in from two yards out. Texas trails 20-14.

Joe Burrow continued his first half hot start with a completion out of the gate to Ja'Marr Chase. Edwards-Helaire carried the ball up the middle, but was stopped short. On third and short, Edwards-Helaire dropped a screen pass. LSU punted the ball to the Texas 14-yard line.

On second and goal at the two-yard line, Ehlinger ran another quarterback power to the left and was originally called a touchdown, but was reviewed and overturned. On third and goal, Keaontay Ingram took a zone read up the middle for no gain. On fourth and goal, Ehlinger was stopped short of the goal line. That's the second Texas drive in a row stopped at the three-yard line.

Burrow looked deep on first down for Justin Jefferson, but the ball fell incomplete. Edwards-Helaire ran up the middle and was stuffed by the Texas defense for a gain of one yard. ON third and short, LSU got on the ball quick and picked up the first down with a run up the middle. Burrow tucked the ball again and ran for a gain of three -- Texas is putting some pressure on Burrow early. Burrow scrambled to his right and connected on a five-yard pass to set up third and two. Edwards-Helaire picked up the first down with a spin move. On the next play, Burrow connected on a deep strike to Terrace Marshall Jr. to put the Tigers in red zone territory. A pitch to the left to Edwards-Helaire gained three yards to the Texas 18-yard line. On third and five, Edwards-Helaire dropped a short pass from Burrow. LSU connected on the 36-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead with 8:04 left in the first quarter.

Sam Ehlinger started the first play with a 19-yard screen play to Keaontay Ingram. Ehlinger called his own number on the QB keeper for an eight-yard run to cross midfield. Ehlinger took a deep shot on second down intended for Brennan Eagles which fell incomplete. A screen pass to Ingram gained little yards and set up fourth down. Texas punted the ball to the LSU 11-yard line.

Texas is hosting the LSU Tigers and College GameDay is in town to capture all the hype. It's the first time College GameDay has been in Austin since 2009.
The announcement was made shortly after UT's win against Louisiana Tech. Well-known Longhorn fanatic Matthew McConaughey also announced he would be making an appearance on the show as a guest picker.
ESPN's Football Power Index gives LSU an 80% chance to knock off the Longhorns in Austin and the line wasn't too kind to them, either. LSU is favored by 6.5 points as a road team. LSU enters the highly-touted matchup after a 55-3 beatdown of the Georgia Southern Eagles.
Both starting quarterbacks lit up their respective opponents in week 1. LSU QB Joe Burrows threw for five touchdown passes in the first half. Meanwhile, Sam Ehlinger showed out in the Longhorns' opener with 276 passing yards and four touchdowns.
