KILGORE - District 9-4A (Div. 1) might be one of the toughest football districts in East Texas. But despite all the talent, Kilgore has managed to finish in at least a tie for the district title each of the last 2 seasons.

Unfortunately, that regular season success hasn't translated to playoff success, as the Bulldogs were upset in the 2nd round each time.

Kilgore senior QB Buddy Jackson says, "The number one thing to success is failure and we we know we have to work harder to get past that 2nd round this year, that's our main goal to get past the 2nd round.

The Bulldogs will rely a lot on their stellar QB-WR duo. Buddy Jackson is back under center for Kilgore and while they are a run-first offense, they're trying to get Jonathan Shepherd, one of the best receivers in the state, more involved in the offense.

Kilgore head coach Mike Wood says, "We gotta get the ball to him better than what we did last year. He's got a chance to be a big playmaker and we gotta be able to get the ball to him."

With those 2 key players back, along with several others, Kilgore could make a run at yet another district title.
