Week 3 of the HS football season is underway

A pair of East Texas high school football teams hit the field on Thursday and faced some very tough competition.

EMORY & HUGHES SPRINGS - Week 3 of the high school football season kicked off on Thursday night and there were a pair of great games involving East Texas.

Whitehouse faced #9 Melissa at a Emory, a neutral site. This game would stay competitive until the end. When it was all said and done, Melissa defeated Whitehouse 27-23. Perhaps the play of the game (and of the season) was an incredible touchdown reception by Chase Mapps; in which the ball deflected off of a defender and subsequently fell in his lap in the endzone. Whitehouse falls to 2-1 on the season.

Our other game was going on in Hughes Springs. The Mustangs hosted Waskom in a non-district play. The game was a defensive battle in the first half, with both teams tied at 0 going into intermission. The second half was another story. Waskom would end up defeating Hughes Springs 21-7.
