NEW LONDON - The West Rusk All-Star baseball team has been playing together for awhile. They've beaten a lot of teams from East Texas and from around the state.
And while they even have a state title on their resume (back in 2015), they've never been able to move on to a national tournament.
That is, until this year.
First baseman Clayton Keith says, "We decided to go big school. We won state and it's just a surreal experience. It's very awesome."
The West Rusk team will be playing in the Dixie Youth Majors World Series in Oxford, Alabama. They'll be taking on teams from all over the country, and that postseason run starts Saturday (August 5) when they play Mississippi.
West Rusk manager Jake Jackson says, "I want them to go and compete, to represent their community the right way with class, being good sports. But at the end of the day, we're going to win, but we're going to go have a good time."
