Tyler motorcyclist killed after two-vehicle wreck in Smith County

The motorcycle and vehicle collided in the westbound lane, according to DPS.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — A motorcyclist was killed after he was struck by a vehicle that failed to yield the right-of-way while driving on FM 16 in Smith County Wednesday afternoon. 

Frank Liles, 59, of Tyler, was driving a 2007 Harley Davidson FLHX west on FM 16 about six miles east of Winona. Riley C. Walters, 22, of Van, was driving a 2022 Ford E350 east and was trying to make a left turn into a private drive, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

DPS said Walters fail to yield right of way and turned left. The motorcycle and vehicle collided in the westbound lane.

Liles was pronounced dead at the scene, DPS said.
