Tyler police identify man killed in late night wreck on South Broadway

TYLER, Texas — The Tyler Police Department has identified a man who was killed in Thursday night wreck.

According to the TPD, the victim has been identified as Michael Anthony Gonzalez, 26.

Just before midnight, emergency officials were called to the scene of an accident involving a motorcycle and a pick-up truck in the 3400 block of South Broadway Avenue.

Police say the pick-up truck, driven by a 61-year-old man, and motorcycle, driven by Gonzalez, were both traveling south at the intersection of South Broadway and East Amherst Drive. Officials say Gonzalez either was slowing or had stopped for a red light when he was struck from behind by the pick-up truck. The truck then hit an electrical pole before catching fire.

Officials attempted to provide life-saving measures to Gonzalez who was found unresponsive at the scene as the TFD extinguished the truck fire.

The driver of the truck and a female passenger were taken to a local hospital where they were treated and released.

Gonzalez was rushed to a Tyler medical center where he was pronounced dead. 

A GoFundMe has been established to help pay for Gonzalez's funeral expenses.

Investigators secured a search warrant for the blood of the pick-up driver and submitted the blood to the Department of Public Safety Lab for testing.

This crash remains under investigation.
