TYLER, Texas — Severe weather isn't good at any time of the day. But when it comes overnight or just before sunrise it can be especially dangerous.

That's the case early Wednesday morning when conditions may come together for a dangerous severe weather outbreak between 3-9 a.m.

At this time, a chunk of East Texas is under an Enhanced Risk of severe weather with other parts of East Texas under either a Slight or Marginal Risk of severe weather.

Let's go over the set up.

You might have noticed it is very humid outside. That's ample moisture that supplies the needed fuel for thunderstorms. We anticipate the rich moisture to continue flowing into the region through the day Tuesday overnight into Wednesday morning.

Throughout the day Tuesday, the atmosphere will have a warm layer of air aloft that will prevent thunderstorms from forming. This will allow energy to build all day and into the night as the moisture continues to increase across the piney woods.

A cold front moves into East Texas around 3 a.m. Wednesday. As this is happening, the warm layer of air aloft will begin cooling. That will allow thunderstorms to rapidly develop near the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Severe, and perhaps very intense thunderstorms that could spin up tornadoes are forecast to move into areas such as Canton and Emory. These areas have the highest potential for severe thunderstorms we've seen so far this severe weather season. These strong to severe thunderstorms will begin to move southeast into and across East Texas.

Strong low-level jet streams will help to sustain these thunderstorms as they move closer to Tyler and Longview. The Storm Prediction Center, in its Tuesday afternoon analysis, said the atmospheric conditions early Wednesday morning could support strong tornadoes and perhaps even long-tracked nocturnal tornadoes. That is reflected in the SPC's Day 2 tornado outlook.
