Burn ban issued for Harrison County

The burn ban will expire in 90 days and the Harrison County Commissioners Court can renew the order later.

County Judge Chad Sims has issued an order prohibiting outdoor burning in Harrison County due to current area drought conditions. 

The burn ban will expire in 90 days and the Harrison County Commissioners Court can renew the order later. 

The document states that outdoor burning is prohibited with the following exception of outdoor cooking only in enclosed pits or grills. This order prohibits outdoor burning in barrels.

This order does not prohibit outdoor activities related to public health and safety authorized by the Texas Commissioner such as

  • firefighter training
  • public utility, natural gas pipeline, or mining operations
  • planting or harvesting of agricultural crops
  • burns that are conducted by a prescribed burn manager

Violation of this order is a Class C misdemeanor and a fine will be issued of $500.
