NEW ORLEANS — WWL-TV Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford

Louisiana is sitting between an area of high pressure over the Southern Plains and one over Bermuda. This put us in a "weakness" in the atmosphere with a trough north of us and that leads into an increased chance for rain. We will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and storms starting now through the afternoon. Some heavy rain is possible, so watch out for street flooding. High temperatures will try to get to 90. It will stay mostly cloudy tonight with a few showers possible. Lows will be in the mid to upper 70s.

Our weather pattern will hold steady through Friday. Each day will have some sun and then expected scattered showers and storms with possible heavy rain. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s and lows in the 70s.

Weekend Outlook: Forecast models continue to show a tropical wave moving up from the southern Gulf over Louisiana. This system is NOT expected to develop, but it will increase our chance for rain. Some of the rain will be heavy at times. I'll watch the system, but conditions are not favorable for development. The clouds and rain will keep our high temperatures in the upper 80s to around 90.

Tropics: An area of low pressure well off the U.S. East Coast has a very low chance of development as it heads out into the Atlantic in the next day or two.

It still looks like a tropical wave will move into the western Gulf of Mexico by Wednesday. Fortunately, the forecast models do not show it developing. Right now, it looks like it will bring us a higher chance for rain and storms this weekend. We will keep you updated.
