Red Cross opens Canton shelter, mounts response to help ETX tornado victims

Emergency crews continue to assess injuries and damage from the tornadoes that ripped through the ETX area Saturday night. The extent of the damage will be hard to see until daylight breaks Sunday morning.

Tammy Prater, Executive Director of the American Red Cross serving East Texas said they are responding to East Texas families in need due to today's storms.

A shelter is open at First Methodist Church Life Center located at 600 South Buffalo in Canton. One is also open in Emory located at 320 Texas Street North.

Another shelter is on stand-by in Eustace.

Volunteers will begin damage assessment Sunday morning as soon as it is safe to do so.

Prater asks that anyone affected by today's storms to reach out to the American Red Cross at 1-866-505-4801.
