TYLER, Texas — A powerful cold front will work across the region tomorrow dropping temperatures around 40°.  But as the front gets closer, the threat for severe storms will ramp up for us as well.  Although wide spread severe storms are not likely, some gusty storms, large hail and a an isolated tornado is possible along the leading edge of the front.  The set-up will bring more wide spread severe storms for our neighbors to our north.

As far as East Texas is concerned, the greatest threat will be areas north of I-20 and the closer you are to the metroplex, the greater the concern is tonight.  Areas west and north of Tyler are under the risk but areas east and south of Tyler are not currently under the marginal risk.  If you are not under the marginal risk it does not mean you are not going to see severe weather, it just means conditions are not as favorable in your area.

The chances for showers and storms exist tonight, but most of the region will not be seeing any storms or heavy showers until Thursday morning.  The storms will develop out in front of the actual cold front.  Here is a look at the futurecast and timing of when storms are expected to develop across our area.

Once we get into the afternoon, the showers and storms will move on out.  By the evening the skies will begin to clear out as well.  The cold air will continue to funnel into our area overnight and by sunrise Friday morning, most of East Texas will see temperatures dipping below freezing.
