FORT WORTH, Texas — We know East Texas is a breeding ground for amazing athletic talent, and what better example than two of the greatest East Texas high school football players practicing together.
Whitehouse native and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes worked out with Lufkin graduate and former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant at APEC's Fort Worth facility on Friday.
Mahomes, who's coming off his first Super Bowl title with the Kansas City Chiefs, graduated from Whitehouse in 2014, while Bryant walked the stage at Lufkin in 2007. Bryant was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys with the 24th-overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.
Bryant is a three-time Pro Bowler, was first-team All-Pro in 2014 and was the NFL's receiving touchdowns leader, also in 2014.
The Cowboys released Bryan on April 13, 2018, after eight seasons with the team. On November 8, 2019, Bryant signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. However, just two days later, he tore his achilles tendon during practice.
Bryant says he wants to return to the gridiron for the 2020-2021 season.
