Gov. Abbott orders flags lowered to half-staff in honor of fallen fire chief

Gov. Abbot urged Texans to remember and honor Chief Smith's service as a brace and dedicated firefighter.

FRITCH, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott has ordered flags in Fritch to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Fire Chief Zeb Smith.

Fritch Fire Chief Zeb Smith was on the scene of a structure fire and died from his injuries after being transported to a local hospital, the Hutchinson County Office of Emergency Management said in a statement.

"Individuals, businesses, municipalities, counties, and other political subdivisions and entities in the surrounding area may fly flags at half-staff for the same period of time as a sign of honor and respect." the governor said in a press release.
