Senior dog named Tessa loves long walks and kids | Forgotten Friends

She may be older, but that has not slowed her down. She still gets the zoomies and has plenty of energy.

CONVERSE, Texas — Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

This week’s Forgotten Friend is a senior dog named Tessa that was brought back to the Converse Animal Shelter in 2020 because she was being picked on by another dog in the home. She had been adopted into that home in 2015 after being found as a stray.

The shelter staff says that Tessa's birthday is on February 27, 2012, making her 12 years old now. But don't let that age fool you because she still has plenty of spunk left in her.

"She is healthy and doesn't have any medical issues," said shelter staff. "She's like Betty White in dog form."

Tessa has had a Wisdom Panel done and the results say she is 73% American Pit Bull Terrier and 100% Good Dog.

Her adoption fee is only $50 because she is considered a "senior dog."

She loves kid, and going for long walks, but hates cats.

Shelter staff says that Tessa does not react to other dogs at the shelter, but as always, if you have another dog at home they'd like for you to do a meet and greet just to be sure they get along.

Tessa may be an older girl, but she still gets the zoomies and has plenty of energy. Everyone at the shelter loves her and she has yet to meet someone that she doesn't love in return

"She would love nothing more than a home to spend her senior years spoiled like every dog deserves," said shelter staff.

Tessa is also super smart. She knows how to sit, shake, lay down and place. She will also willingly roll over on command in order to get her tummy rubbed.
